Tips to deal with stalkers

How to deal with stalkers

Say no to stalkers

For many of us the word stalker means a menacing and ugly looking man. Like a surveillance camera, he follows you everywhere, and knows every intimate detail about you. More often than not, one would find the stalker to be a man. This kind of behavior is unwanted and harassing in nature.

Stalking happens when the stalker wants to establish a relationship between him/her and the victim, which is otherwise not possible. When refused, a stalker may turn violent and pose as a major threat to the victim’s life. Calling repeatedly, constant observation, sending gifts, gathering information, all are perfectly normal activities. It is alarming only when these actions are performed repeatedly in a short span of time.

Many a times, families, friends and the neighborhood try to make the victim believe that it’s his/her fault. They make us think that some of our behavior, action, speech or sensibilities have been inappropriate enough to make the stalker engage in stalking. Remember nothing in this world can justify stalking.

How to deal with stalkers?

Below is a list of activities a person might do in case one is stalked

  • Inform your friends and family about the stalker.
  • If you stay alone, inform the watchman, secretary of the building etc
  • Do not talk to him or her alone.
  • If you have to, deal with your stalker in a calm and composed manner.
  • Try to understand your stalker’s purpose of stalking.
  • Avoid lonely roads and places
  • Avoid going out alone in the night. Try to arrange for friends who can drop you home
  • Try to learn some self defense techniques
  • Last but not least do inform the law enforcing authorities.

In spite of taking so many precautions stalking can happen to anybody. Do not wait for something fatal to happen to you. If you feel that a particular person is seen around you very often or is gathering information about you discreetly, confront him/her calmly and know his purpose. It could be a perfectly harmless coincidence too. Prevention is better than cure.
