Saina Nehwal the current number 2 in the world was born in a Jat family in Hissar, Haryana. She wand has spent her entire life in the city of Hyderabad, India. Her father, Dr Harvir Singh, a scientist at the Directorate of Oilseeds Research, Hyderabad and her mother Usha Nehwal have always supported her as they themselves have been former badminton champions in Haryana.
Saina and her parents indeed deserve a lot of praise. Right from a very young age, Saina’s father has been with her during her grueling training schedules. Both the father daughter duo would get up as early as 4 am for Saina to train in a stadium, 25kms away. She used to practice for 2 hours and then go to her school. Saina’s father had to sacrifice his savings and provident fund to keep het training going.
Today her determination and her parent’s sacrifices have established her as a strong and future contender for the Number 1 position. From a meager Rs.300, she has reached at a place where she is earning in lakhs. But the name and the immense fame have not gone into her head as is the case with others of her age. According to her parents, though not a party animal, she has not been able to go to public places like theatres and public functions due to intense media hounding. We are sure Saina Nehwal will bring more laurels to the nation and do us proud.

While Sania Mirza who could never reach even in top 30 in her sport was given more coverage in media. And here is Saina Nehwal – she world no 3 and she gets almost zero media coverage.
