Traditionally men have been the bread-winners o the family and women have donned the role of care givers, mothers and nurturing the family. But over the years conditions have changed and women started going out to work. But has the mental conditioning of this male dominated society changed?
Working women – the problems they face
According to reports two our of every ten women at work face discrimination. Also three our of ten women face resistance in family when they go out for work. Are we as a society mature enough to accept the fact that women can work with men and can deliver as effectively as men?
Here are some common problems that the working women face:
- Women are considered unfit for managerial posts or certain jobs just by virtue of their being women. The general consensus is that they lack the authority and efficiency to be in positions of power.
- Women also have to shoulder dual responsibility as in workplace and home. Women are expected to complete all the house wok before going to office. Similarly she has to come back and do the rest of the work no matter how tired she feels.
- Most often we notice that women employees are given pink-slips in comparison to male employees.
- At workplace women are the most targeted lot when it comes to harassment and unwanted attention.
- Women are expected to be doubly efficient and hardworking to prove themselves. Their success is attributed mostly to their looks and the fact that they are women.
- The age old ‘gender-bias’ still exists not only outside the house but also in the house.
A huge change is required in the attitudes of males within the family and outside for this situation to improve.
