Pills
Pills contain synthetic female hormones like estrogen and progestrogen. These are oral tablets. They stop the release of the egg by the ovary and change the environment of the uterus making it unfriendly for embryo to implant. Pills should be avoided by women with heart disease and blood pressure and women who smoke.
Intrauterine Device (IUD)
IUD is a small plastic and metal device placed in the womb and provides extremely reliable contraception. The major problem with this method is that one has to undergo heavy periods and an increased risk of infection.
Breastfeeding
Breastfeeding is also considered one of the natural methods of contraception. Till the time a women is breastfeeding her child fully chances are almost nil. This method is very safe and without any side effects.
Female Condom
This is female counterpart of condoms and has to be inserted just a few hours before intercourse. The female condom is not only difficult to use but the internal ring causes pain during movement. It can also lead to urinary tract infections if left inside for a longer period of time.
Emergency contraceptives
These are pills which can be taken after having sex with your partner. This is a situation which should be avoided. Only when the earlier method of contraception has failed then one should go for these methods. The only condition is that this pill needs to be taken within 72 hrs of having unprotected sex.
