Children want variety in everything that they do, even in food. They get bored of eating the same food again and again. There are times when your child has come back from school with out even touching his tiffin. This is because he knows what is inside without seeing it once.
- Boil potatoes and mash them. Add coriander leaves, coriander powder, salt, and a pinch of sugar. Make balls out of it and fry them
- Put flavored cupcakes and ask your kids to do the icing on it.
- Prepare different colored sandwiched and cut them using cookie cutters
- Stuff their favourite curry leftover in an idli. Or alternately you can fry the idlis using butter.
- Puree vegetables which your child doesn’t like and combine with flour to make chapattis out of it.
Here is a sample of how you can plan tiffin for your kids
Monday: Stuffed paranthas with a different filling each time with cucumber and tomato salad
Tuesday: sandwiches with potatoes wedges and dal sprouts
Wednesday: Noodles/macaroni with lots of vegetables like beans, carrots, peas etc
Thursday: poha with coriander and peanuts & a variety of dry fruits like cashew nuts, raisins etc.
Friday: suji halwa or namkeen suji with lots of vegetables
Saturday: boiled and salted corn with cup cakes
All of us feel hungry. The children are no exception, especially because they are more mischievous and need lots of energy to run around. Make the meal attractive and healthy to eat. If your child does not eat his tiffin, don’t force him. Rather try to discover the real reason for not eating.
