The problem of Bedwetting

Bedwetting is the most common childhood urologic complaint amongst children. Most bedwetting cases, are just a developmental delay—not an emotional problem or physical illness. As parents do not scold the child. Remember he is not doing it deliberately. He also wants to control it but can’t. Try to ascertain his problem rather than ridiculing him or embarrassing him publicly. Here are a few causes

Causes of bedwetting

  • Most bedwetting children are simply delayed in developing the ability to stay dry and have no other developmental issues.
  • Improper toilet training
  • Bedwetting has a strong genetic connection
  • Urinary tract infection
  • A smaller bladder which cannot hold urine and hence the child urinates.
  • Insufficient anti-diuretic hormone (ADH) production
  • Psychological issues (e.g., death in the family, sexual abuse etc)
  • Sleep walking can also lead to bed wetting
