Here are some unique uses of eggshells like for cleaning flasks, thermoses, for compost, to start seedlings or to make them into candles or paper weights.
Are you making an omelet for breakfast? Good!!! What do you do with the shells? Throw them in the dustbin? Never toss out those egg shells. They’re not garbage, but can be very useful around the house and the backyard.
- By crushing eggshells you can pour them into tight spaces like flasks, thermoses, or vases. Throw them in the oven for a few minutes. By shaking those around, you will clean any residue without the use of harsh chemicals.
- Eggshells are mainly calcium and magnesium, which are excellent compost sources. An advantage to using this all-natural fertilizer is that it discourages slugs from getting into your garden because they can’t move over the broken shells.
- You can also use them to start seedlings in. Then when you transplant, just crack the shell and plant the whole thing. Of course this only works for small seedlings.

- You can put melted candle wax into them and turn them into mini candles. Keep a set of 6 in a painted egg tray and they will brighten every corner of your home.

- You can also paint them and use them as decorations in your kids room
- Fill them with POP (Plaster of Paris) and let it dry. Paint them or not. You can use them as paper weights.
- If you are out of steel wool, grind up an eggshell and scrub them over pots and pans. The eggshells will clean off any residue. This is a good alternative while you are camping also. You don’t need harsh chemicals and eggshells are all natural for the environment.
