Attukal Pongala Festival 2011

AttukalPongala is the festival celebrated at Attukaldevi temple, Kerela, Thiruvanathapuram. This festival is dedicated to Atukal Devi,  an incarnation of goddess Parvathi. Attukal Pongala Festival is observed during the malyalam month of kumbham (February – March) and celebrated on some certain dates; mostly on it coincides with poornima or the full moon day.

According to the reports, around 2 million women would be gathering in the premises of the temple to pay their homage to the goddess. On this auspicious festival all the rituals would be starting from the morning at 10.  women devotees cook Pongala or the boiled rice in the temple premises and offer to the Goddess Parvati or Attukalamma, in the Attukal Devi Temple, also known as the “Sabarimala of women”.

Attukal Pongala is celebrated by singing various bhajans or hymns, ballets which will depict folk and temple arts along with many other cultural events. Now everyone can watch this festival live on the Attukal Devi temple website. The traditional ceremony would be aired on live video today from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon and 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
