What is Women’s day?

International Women’s Day is the global celebration of women and it is marked on the 8th of March every year. This year Women’s day has got importance because it is observed as the  100th International Women’s Day.

International Women’s Day is originally called International Working Women’s Day.  The main focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women’s economic, political and social achievements.

Lets see the importance of this day:

The first International Women’s Day was observed on 19 March 1911 in Germany following a declaration by the Socialist Party of America. The idea of having an international women’s day was first put forward at the turn of the 20th century amid rapid world industrialization and economic expansion that led to protests over working conditions.

On this auspicious day it is customary for men to give flowers, Choclates and small gifts to women in their lives like  mothers, wives, girlfriends, daughters, colleagues, etc. In some countries (such as Romania) it is also observed as an equivalent of Mother’s Day, where children also give small presents to their mothers and grandmothers. In few countries Women sometimes get gifts from their employers too. School children often bring gifts for their teachers as well.

What is there if we only celebrate this occasion lets be different and make this day great by doing something special like helping and sharing our happiness with the orphans, poor widows and old women in need of some company.

Well what are your plans for the upcoming Women’s day.
